KC Chiefs news consists of how the Kansas City Chiefs gave a tryout to the son of a Chiefs legend.

When a KC Chiefs fan is asked who the best defensive player was in the 1990s, there’s little debate. Most of them will tell you that it was, without a doubt, Derrick Thomas.

Thomas tragically passed away in 2000, before his NFL career was even over with. He’s still cherished in the hearts of Chiefs Kingdom, and now the team is giving his son, Donnell Alexander, a chance with the team.

Alexander, a running back at both Colorado State and Akron, has his work cut out for him if he wants to make the Chiefs’ roster. The team signed Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware to extensions this past offseason and have Jamaal Charles returning from an ACL injury he sustained last season. Oh, and don’t forget that Knile Davis is still on the roster too.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Regardless of the circumstances in the backfield, it’s cool that the Kansas City Chiefs are giving Alexander a tryout. His father did a lot for the KC Chiefs organization and is still considered to be one of the best players in team history.

It’d be cool to see the son of a legend crack the roster, but Alexander will really have to show up big during camp.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to contend in the AFC this season and that starts with winning the division. If they can do that, they’ll be in good position to make it deep into the postseason.

Despite not being a big name out of college, Donnell Alexander could end up finding a role in Kansas City. He finished his college career with 294 rushing attempts for 1,509 yards and nine touchdowns. He spent two years at Colorado State and spent 2015 at Akron.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what the Chiefs decide to do regarding their crowded backfield. Perhaps Alexander can play a role this season. Only time will tell.
