The Chiefs are heavy favorites in Arizona against the Cardinals in Week 2 of the preseason this weekend. Arizona pulled out a late victory against the Broncos last week, while Kansas City lost on a last-second field goal after a critical interception.

Kansas City was content to escape without injury against the Saints as the first-team offense only played one series and the first-team defense played soft coverage.

I expect a more stringent effort from the Chiefs, though preseason motivations will obviously wane. Nonetheless, there’s one bet with value I’m eyeing in this matchup.

Chiefs vs. Cardinals Prediction and Pick

I’m weary of backing any team with a spread over a touchdown, so I’m staying away from Chiefs -7.5. Instead, I’m betting Kansas City to win by 1-13 points at FanDuel with +140 odds.

This is a simple value play. The Chiefs are -325 on the moneyline, so oddsmakers expect us to win. That being said, we don’t typically win going away in the preseason.

In our last 15 preseason games, we would have covered this spread only twice. In our last 11? We would have covered it just once.  When the Chiefs win preseason games, it’s almost always by less than two touchdowns. That makes sense given the contests’ lack of importance and this is an angle I’m heavily targeting.

After such a dismal showing last week, Kansas City’s starters should perform better this time around. Our second and third-team defense played well, and Arizona’s offensive ineptitude doesn’t scare me.

The Chiefs will be motivated to come away with a win, but getting +140 odds for that win to be between 1-13 points is too good of value for me to pass up on.

Take Kansas City at +140 odds and let’s put a victory on the board.
