In the first slide of Ben’s article, he mentions how some players are in the running for various awards as well as milestone statistics. Absolutely, players do care about these situations. These statistics play a small role, if any, when it comes to a head coach making his decision for the final week, especially when the playoff spot has been wrapped up already.

Sure, the possibility of players such as Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt padding stats and having an even more impressive season stat-wise is intriguing, but the negatives outweighs the positives. Any awards coming to either of those players, or anyone else in the league, probably have already earned them by now.
For those on the fence, if Alex Smith were to get injured, or even Hunt, or Kelce, and so forth and so on could be detrimental to the Chiefs chances of moving forward during the playoffs.
Imagine the flak that would rain down on coach Reid. It could also be detrimental to Smith’s possible and probable trade value coming in the offseason. Bottom line, the value of Alex Smith will not be affected.
