The KU basketball team renews an old acquaintance when the Nebraska Cornhuskers visit Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Kansas Jayhawks will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who are former Missouri Valley, Big 8, and Big 12 rivals. The Cornhuskers are 5-4 with losses to Creighton, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and UCLA.
On Tuesday, head coach Bill Self celebrated his 600 career victory with a win over UMKC. Self has also compiled an incredible 211-9 record in Allen Fieldhouse.
The Jayhawks have won eight in a row this season and have a streak of 47 consecutive wins in the Phog. This is the longest active home winning streak in the country!

The Jayhawks continue to be a guard-oriented squad. The team was 15 for 27 in three-point shooting (55.6 percent) against UMKC. This included Tyler Self and Carlton Bragg Jr. being a combined 0-3 in garbage time.
The four primary big men combined to score just 23 of Kansas’ 105 points and the logged just 43 minutes total as a group. They also pulled down 15 rebounds.
This has been a constant theme for this KU basketball team. Is the frontline good enough, or can they improve enough, for this team to win another Big 12 title and make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament?
When the Jayhawks get into the conference portion of their schedule, they will not get the open looks from behind the arc they are getting now. The defensive pressure will be much higher from Big 12 foes.
It is a bit scary to see this team so reliant upon the play of their guards, as good as they have been. It means when they have a cold night shooting, or they can’t get open looks from deep, it is going to be hard to win those games.

This KU basketball team MUST get more production from their interior players. They cannot hope for this level of success once they get into conference play.
The guards for the Kansas Jayhawks have been phenomenal so far but it is unlikely they can maintain this level of excellence when the competition improves.
