Today’s KC Royals news focuses on potential breakout players and the Royals being fitted for some new jewelry.

The KC Royals that didn’t get fitted for rings at Fan Fest this year, got fitted for their championship rings earlier this week. The World Champions received a ring last year, but this one is going to be more special.

Last year’s model read ‘American League Champions’. This time, they don’t have to relive any heartbreak every time they see their bling. This time the rings show that they finished what they started.

There is no wondering what could’ve been or trying to calculate the percentage in which Alex Gordon would have been thrown out at home plate. It’s almost perfect that the Royals tied game five in spectacular fashion. It just goes to show, that when the pressure is on and the Royals press the issue, anything is possible.

The Royals will receive their shiny new mementos on April fifth prior to their second home game of the season. In attendance to watch the ceremony will be none other than the New York Mets.

It’s almost cruel that they have to stand there and watch what could have been theirs be passed out. If it wasn’t for the poor sportsmanship of one golden-locked pitcher in a Mets’ uniform it would almost require a little bit of sympathy.

Luckily, the Royals’ fans don’t take kindly to those who would headhunt their players. If Noah Syndegaard takes the mound in that opening series, he’s sure to be met with a chorus of boos that may rival Robinson Cano.

The Royals, who seem to care only about hanging a ‘W’ in the win column each night, will likely enjoy the moment briefly, but will be motivated and focused on setting up another ring ceremony in 2017. Until then, they’ll settle for what will hopefully be the first of many rings to come.

"For now, Colon will have the first chance to prove that he can man second base. As it turns out, Infante’s surgery to take care of the bone spur in his elbow was more extensive than originally thought, keeping him off the field for at least the first week of Spring Training games."

Some Royals Players Get Fitted For Their World Series Rings [Kansas City Star]

Graves’ Breakout Royals [MLB.Com]

Danny Graves of 120Sports.com picked Jarrod Dyson and Kris Medlen to be his Royals’ breakout players of 2016. See the video in the link above.

Both are good candidates to breakout if they can earn regular playing time. Dyson has never gotten much chance to start, but could put up a lot of steals if he played every day.

Kris Medlen may not need to earn playing time, but he does have to stay healthy. If he can stay healthy after a full off-season to prepare for 2016, he should be a solid starter in the Royals rotation.

Other breakout candidates could be Christian Colon, Mike Moustakas, or Eric Hosmer.

Colon figures to be the one with the most to prove. He hasn’t been a starter and his career is defined by two shining moments in the postseason. If he can earn a stating role, he could easily be a breakout player in terms of progression from last year.

Hosmer and Moustakas are less likely breakout candidates because they’ve already broken out to an extent.

Moustakas really turned things around last season as he learned to hit to all fields. He could still improve on his batting average and if last season was only the start, who’s tho say that he couldn’t hit upwards of 30 home runs.

Eric Hosmer batted .297 and hit 18 home runs which was one shy of his career best. He showed up to Spring Training having appeared to put on some muscle and he himself could hit close to thirty home runs.

While both have been great draft picks by the Royals, neither appears to have reached his ceiling. 2016 could be an improvement for both and if it is, they’re off to the races.
