How can Kansas City Royals fans not love Salvador Perez? No one in baseball has more joy and fun playing baseball and living the life of a baseball player than the KC Royals All-Star catcher.

No more proof is needed than this incredible clip from mlb.com and the MLB Network. Intentional Talk host Kevin Millar has his fair share of good times but he and Salvador Perez together will certainly put a smile on your face. These two guys have a love of everything baseball!

Of course, according to mlb.com, Perez leads all American League catchers in voting for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game, with 11,666,785 votes as of Monday. It would be his third All-Star appearance, and the first time he has been selected by fans to start the Summer Classic.

Perez is among the leaders in the American League in several categories for catchers, according to Fangraphs.

More from Kansas City Royals

  • Wins Above Replacement – 1.3 – 4th
  • Batting Average – .270 – 2nd
  • Home Runs – 13 – 1st (tied)
  • Runs Batted In – 34 – 4th
  • Doubles – 12 – 2nd
  • Slugging Percentage – .464 – 4th
  • Defensive Runs Saved – 6 – 2nd

One category Perez does not excel in is On Base Percentage. Perez sits at .280, only ten points above his batting average. The reason – he doesn’t walk. In 268 plate appearances, Perez has just 4 walks, plus one intentional walk.

Look up “hacker” in the baseball dictionary, and you might find a photo of Perez.

Who are we kidding though? We love Perez for what he does right, and not for his very few warts. His joy at being on the field is evident every day. He loves the game and isn’t afraid to show it all the time.

On Sunday, he knocked out his 500th career hit, a home run in Oakland. His 502 hits ranks him 12 among active catchers right now. His 57 career homers ranks 13th, as does his 89 doubles. He ranks just 15th in games played.

It may not be long before he will be considered the greatest catcher in KC Royals history either.

The Royals have hit a slight bump in the road so far in Houston this week, but look for this bunch to bounce back.

Slight injuries to Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, and Alcides Escobar have the team a bit banged up, but hopefully they will close out the successful road trip with a win today.

Regardless, on July 13th, Salvador Perez will be starting at catcher for the American League All-Star team in Cincinnati, representing the KC Royals. His love of the game will make him a great representative for the Royals.

Now, we shall see what other Kansas City Royals will join him on the roster for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game.
