Jeremy Maclin‘s deal with the Kansas City Chiefs is five-year, $55 million contract. The KC Chiefs have announced the signing on their website and scheduled a press conference for 2:00 PM Central on Wednesday.

The deal includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money according to CBS Sports reporter Chris Mortenson:

The KC Chiefs had to clear cap space to make the deal with the 26-year-old former Philadelphia Eagle wide receiver official. There is no word what moves the Chiefs made to fit Maclin under the salary cap, but there have been numerous reports that wide receiver Dwayne Bowe will leave Kansas City.

Essentially, the Chiefs are swapping the $11 million salary they were going to pay 31-year-old Bowe for the younger, faster Jeremy Maclin.

Jeremy Maclin, who turns 27 on May 11, will take over the no. 1 receiver role from Dwayne Bowe. He brings speed and explosiveness that the larger Bowe lacks. The 6’0″, 200-pound Maclin is also a better fit for a West Coast system due to his ability to create quick separation out of his cuts.

Maclin broke out last season to post 85 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns after Chip Kelly made him the Eagles no. 1 receiver following DeSean Jackson’s release before the 2014 season.

Jeremy Maclin entered the NFL as no. 1 pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2009 Draft (19th overall). The former Missouri Tiger Maclin is a five-year NFL veteran, playing his first four seasons under current Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia. He missed all of the 2013 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, before his breakout season in 2014.

For his career, Jeremy Maclin has  343 receptions, for 4,771 yards, and 36 touchdowns. He has played in two playoff games in his career, including a 7-catch, 146 yard, and 1 touchdown effort in a 34-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in 2009.

The Chiefs, and general manager John Dorsey, hope that Jeremy Maclin can help open up Andy Reid’s West Coast offense. Quarterback Alex Smith has lacked a true no. 1 target the last two seasons at the helm of Kansas City’s offense after wide receiver Dwayne Bowe faded from the pro-bowl form he flashed earlier in his career.

Welcome home to Missouri, Jeremy! And, good luck in Kansas City.
