… and that concludes our third staff-wide first round mock draft at KC Kingdom!

In conclusion, this draft saw EIGHT trades happen (we had three last year), including for the first overall pick. The Giants gave up both of their first round selections in order to nab their quarterback of the future, Kyler Murray.

Whether you agree with the boldness or not, A) This is pretend and B) It certainly would get the first round off to a bang if this really were to go down. The second and third overall picks also had trades, with the Jets and Niners swapping spots so that the Jets could select Nick Bosa, arguably the best overall player in the draft.

As for the rest of the draft, here’s the rundown of the positions taken:

  • Quarterback – 3
  • Running Back – 1
  • Wide Receiver – 2
  • Tight End – 2
  • Offensive Linemen – 7
  • Defensive Linemen – 8
  • Linebacker – 4
  • Cornerback – 3
  • Safety – 2

Obviously the defensive line had the most prospects go off the board in the first round, as this draft is stacked at that position. Linebacker was also a popular position and it’s clear that teams are starting to focus more on beefing up their defense.

On the offensive side of the ball, as important as that aspect is in the sport these days, only two receivers and two tight ends went in round one. Running back continues to be a position that teams avoid in the first one, but with three total picks, the Raiders could “gamble” a bit there.
