It’s a new year for the Kansas City Royals and while a winning season isn’t likely, seeing improvements certainly is.

We all want this rebuild to go as fast as possible, but at the same time, Dayton Moore and the Royals need to pace themselves. They have some great young arms in their minor leagues right now that very well could get to the majors by the end of the 2019 season.

More from Kansas City Royals

If those guys pan out, we could be looking at a much different mentality for the 2020 season in which the Royals could be a dark horse candidate to make the playoffs. That all depends, however, on if the Royals handle this rebuild the right way.

For individual resolutions:

  • Danny Duffy – Find a way to get to 200 innings pitched, as the most he’s yet to throw as a pro was 179.2 in 2016.
  • Alex Gordon will be admired forever in Kansas City, but it’d be great to see him go out on a high note.
  • Ian Kennedy – Make it through the year with respectable numbers to make that contract not look so bad.
  • Jorge Soler – Stay healthy, man!
  • Jorge Bonifacio – Get back to those 2017 numbers.
  • Adalberto Mondesi – Follow up impressive 2018 campaign.

The 2019 season probably isn’t going to be anything to write home about, but it will be a critical year in how this team looks moving forward. They need to focus on letting the young players get important at bats and not giving up on them so soon.

If they can do that, 2019 could be a happy year indeed for the Kansas City Royals… we just might not realize it until a few years from now.
