Kansas State Football: Identity crisis plagues Wildcats
By John McCarty
For Kansas State to get back to winning games, they must decide and establish who they want to be and what they are about.
Currently, coach talks about players and their ‘intrinsic values’and their character. That’s all well and good, but that doesn’t win you a football game. The Snyder teams of the 90’s were powerful and strong, and not afraid to hit you, defense or offense. What are they now? What is their identity?
The coaching staff has a majority of younger coaches now, comprised of former players like Andre Coleman, Colin Klein and Eric Hickson on offense with Blake Seiler among others on defense. These are coaches that have shown an ability and willingness to recruit.
This program must allow them to do so. Their energy is there. They as a staff, as a program, must decide what kind of player they want, and then target and recruit that skill set.
As of now, the Cats, after rewarding five walk-ons with scholarships, the Wildcats football programs is up to 75 scholarship players, still under the limit.
Take into account there will be players leaving the program for a variety of reasons this offseason (happens every year, it’s normal) and K-State is fighting with a hand tied behind their back trying win a conference with players perhaps not good enough to play in it.
