With no upper-level talent coming in, the Wildcats need to find away to recruit players that will come to Kansas State and actually stay. They need to figure out why some players are leaving and fix that issue.

Currently, both quarterbacks Skylar Thompson and Alex Delton really don’t fit with what the Cats are trying to do, which is basically the Colin Klein power run playbook. Thompson is athletic, but more athletic than a pure runner.

Delton is a decent runner, but is not overly powerful and doesn’t have the arm strength or accuracy to keep defensive backs honest. Neither is a fit to run what the play calling is asking.

More from KC Kingdom

Also, they don’t compliment each other very well. We have seen what happens if Thompson isn’t in the game (the first half of the Texas game this season) and it’s not pretty.

Currently, K-State has a spread style tight end (pass catching) committed along with some undersized wide receivers. Does this program want to open up the offense, run a more Thompson-specific passing style? When you watch on gamedays, you certainly see a power run style regardless of personnel.

Fans want to see these things too and they are frustrated. The only thing worse than an angry fan base is an apathetic fan base, and the Cats are approaching dangerous waters of creating an apathetic fan base.

An angry fan base still cares. An apathetic one doesn’t show up.

Between 36-40 thousand people were at the game against Oklahoma State. Bill Snyder Family Stadium holds in upwards of 50 thousand. Lose a couple games against Oklahoma and TCU and when the team comes back home to face Kansas, there may very well be a lot of empty seats.

Is it time to make a chance at the top? No one knows for sure. Will changes need to be made? Without a doubt, yes. Can those changes be implemented? Yes. Can they, however, remains to be seen.

What is certain, Kansas State will need to do something or the end of Bill Snyder era will end the unfortunate way many others have, such as Bobby Bowden, Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, with dwindling returns and unfortunate conclusions.
