UGLY: SECONDARY

I’ll hand it to the Chiefs secondary regarding one aspect: They did okay in the first half. The second half, however, was another story.

They allowed Jimmy Garoppolo to finish the day going 20 of 30 for 251 yards and two touchdowns. While it wasn’t a 400 yard performance like the previous two weeks, Jimmy G shouldn’t be torching a defense like that.

There were two touchdowns where the Chiefs left 49er targets wide open and that can’t happen if you want to be a Super Bowl contender. It’s clear that this secondary is lousy and teams are picking them apart. Even someone as unproven as Jimmy Garoppolo was doing so.

The Chiefs have been rumored to have interest in Seahawks safety Earl Thomas and I really hope they end up trading for him. This secondary needs Eric Berry, but his absence shouldn’t result in them being this crappy.

Next week KC will face Case Keenum and the Broncos and if he has a field day against the defense, then you know it’s going to be a long year defensively for the Chiefs.
