This was certainly a winnable game for Mizzou football, but South Carolina played better and therefore, they won the game. The Gamecocks made less mistakes and took advantage of MU’s mishaps.

Now with a 1-1 record, MU football will have their work cut out for them to prove that they can compete alongside the SEC this year. This game against South Carolina was supposed to be one of the Tigers’ easier games in the conference. That’s not good.

Next weekend the Tigers will host the Purdue Boilermakers of the Big Ten. Purdue hasn’t been all that good over the past few years, but they held their own against Louisville in week one and pounded the Ohio Bobcats this past weekend. It’ll be a tougher challenge than Missouri will give it credit for.

The next SEC game will occur on September 23rd when Auburn comes to Columbia. Auburn is coming off a loss to Clemson this weekend, but is a top 25 ranked team. They’ll be a handful for the Tigers, but it won’t be impossible for Missouri to win that game.

At the end of the day, this is just one loss, but it hurt. Mizzou had every opportunity to stay in this one, but dumb miscues led to their demise. They deserved to lose after their offense failed to make plays and their special teams was woefully unable to do anything productive.

It’ll be a long week for Missouri fans, but hold the phone on the “Fire Barry Odom” takes please. It’s only one game. Purdue’s up next. Can’t wait.
