Not only does Dom Dwyer impress for Sporting KC, but he also impresses on a national level. Dwyer’s last two appearances with Team USA have been nothing but positive for the KC striker.

Dom Dwyer has been making a real name for himself for Team USA and Sporting Kansas City across the states. First, at a friendly in East Hartford at Rentschler Field and then at Nissan Stadium in Nashville for the Gold Cup. In these two games, Dwyer has had two crucial strikes into the back of the net for Team USA bringing national attention.

It is hard to think why USMNT waited so long to add the London native to their roster. He has shown his true colors in the form of powerful offense and the promise of serious momentum that has made him such a notable star in Kansas City. While Dwyer’s continued success is good news nationally and for soccer in general it draws negatives for SKC.

Dwyer has been such a impact performance for USMNT that he has drawn the attention of Kobe Bryant.

Talk about national attention. That is some great respect from one great to another across professional sports. For Dwyer’s first goal on the US Men’s National Team he scored in the nineteenth minute against Ghana. His opportunity for score came when the ball careened off of the foot of Joe Corona where, afterwards, Dwyer drilled it into the net.

Adding his signature backflip celebration, Dwyer relished in his first international goal. The scoring would not end there for Dwyer as USA opened play for the Gold Cup against Panama. Dwyer’s scoring hot streak would continue as he was able to find the net in the fiftieth minute of the match continuing to add to his already impressive national stats.

With three crucial players on the national level, Sporting KC is missing some key talent. While these crucial players gain some development playing against some of the best teams in the world, they miss out on their MLS games. Graham Zusi, hometown hero Matt Besler, and Dwyer himself all miss some MLS games with their national commitments.

This may be a drawback for Sporting KC, but it also brings opportunity for other players to step up and make an impact.

Where to Watch Dom Dwyer and Sporting KC Next

Dwyer will continue his international play along with Zusi and Besler as he takes on Martinique on Wednesday, July 12 at 7:30pm CDT on Fox Sports 1. Up next for Sporting Kansas City is a US Open Cup game against FC Dallas where they fight for sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.

While SKC will have multiple obstacles to overcome with the absence of the trio that perform in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, SKC has seen players step up in the wake of the US Men’s National Team’s additions out of Kansas City.

While Dwyer continues to rack up international success he also continues his overall development as a player. Even though he misses MLS games as a compromise for his play for Team USA, his exposure to these great teams should help Sporting KC in the long run. Once this trio of professional players return home, they will be ready to help Kansas City for postseason play.
