It’s still way too early to decipher just what the Kansas City Chiefs are thinking of doing when it comes to the 2017 NFL Draft, but it’s always fun to speculate. This particular draft will probably look ridiculous within the next few months.

For it being the very beginning of the offseason in Kansas City, I felt like I did a pretty good job at drafting for needs for the Chiefs.

More from KC Kingdom

In the first round, I addressed the linebacker position in Jarrad Davis out of Florida. Davis would provide a run stopping ability, which suffered when Derrick Johnson going down late in the season. Davis also could serve as a pass rusher too.

The second round is the flashy pick and it involves the Kansas City Chiefs drafting a quarterback. The lucky guy is Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech, who threw for over 700 yards in a single game this past season.

Mahomes has the electric stuff that a quarterback needs, but could his stats be a little misleading? That’s the big question.

Another flashy position taken in this draft was Donnel Pumphrey, an excellent running back at San Diego State, who finished tenth in Heisman Trophy voting. Pumphrey could provide a much needed burst to the Chiefs running game and could be a steal in the fifth round.

This is only the first of many mock drafts to come during these long months before the 2017 NFL Draft takes place. A lot can happen between now and then, like the Chiefs addressing certain positions in free agency or losing a guy to another team.

What did you think of my first mock draft of the season? Which picks did you like and which picks did you not care for?
