Late game defense

The defense looked great in the first half. They held the Texans to nine points and on their very first series, rookie Marcus Peters was able to pick off Brian Hoyer. That interception gave the Chiefs an early red zone opportunity in which the offense was able to capitalize on and take an early lead.

In the second quarter, Justin Houston was able to sack Hoyer and caused him to fumble the ball and give the Chiefs yet another forced turnover.

The defense continued to play well in the first half, but they didn’t keep the pace up when the second half rolled around. The fourth quarter was where things got a little nerve-wracking though, as Houston put 11 points on the board and made it a seven point game in Reliant Stadium.

Ryan Mallet was eventually put into the game for the Texans and led his offense right down the field for a touchdown. He later led them to a field goal too, and made things interesting near the end, but fortunately Kansas City recovered the onside kick to end the game.

The KC defense looked solid early on with the Peters interception and the forced fumble from Justin Houston, but they need to remain more competitive in the second half. The Texans were down 27-9, and ended up only making this a seven point game.

Just because the Chiefs had an 18 point lead didn’t mean their defense needed to cool off. Let’s hope they play hard for the entire game for the rest of the season so games don’t get close near the end.
