Run Defense

You didn’t even have to watch the game to know that this was coming. All you have to do is look at the Raiders’ stats and you’d see that the Chiefs were not able to stop the run at all on Thursday night.

A terrible Oakland rushing attack was able to get two rushing touchdowns on Kansas City IN THE FIRST HALF. Remember, before this game the Chiefs were the only team in the NFL that hadn’t allowed a rushing touchdown. Well, now that’s been broken, as Latavius Murray ran into the end zone in the first quarter after an Oakland offensive drive went over 60 yards in a little over 10 minutes.

Murray had over 100 rushing yards on the day on FOUR CARRIES. That’s atrocious. Of course, most of that was from his 90 yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, but that’s not any better in my opinion. More like embarrassing.

Overall, the Raiders offense was able to rush for 179 yards on the night and made Kansas City’s defense look like a joke. This was a team that couldn’t run the ball at all this year, but consistently made the Chiefs look bad and it was incredibly frustrating to watch.

I don’t expect this run defense to improve overnight, but with the Denver Broncos coming to town and knowing how to exploit defenses, this needs to be fixed by next Sunday night’s match up. Otherwise it’s going to be an incredibly long night for the Kansas City Chiefs defense.
