Special Teams

Yes, De’Anthony Thomas had a 78 yard kick return that put the Chiefs in position to score right before half time, but I wasn’t happy with the special teams unit otherwise.  Percy Harvin had a total of 88 yards on on only two kick returns, with a long of 65 yards. Tight end Jace Amaro also had a decent return for 21 yards.

Not only was the tackling dreadful on special teams, but on Harvin’s long return Cairo Santos decided to try and stop him by tripping him. Really Cairo? As Herm Edwards would say, “C’mon man!”

It’s funny watching Santos trip Harvin now, but at the time I was not a happy camper. It gave the Jets good field position right before the half and they were able to get points out of it. At least Cairo had a good sense of humor about it, but don’t do it again please.

Wide Receivers

As I mentioned earlier, Alex Smith has STILL yet to throw a touchdown pass to a wide receiver. WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Did you know that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers have 17 touchdowns on the year? The Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers have ZERO. Pathetic.

I get that the depth on the Kansas City receiver roster is a bit weak, but Dwayne Bowe should at least have a few grabs for touchdowns this year. Instead, Bowe was targeted on Sunday 10 times and had six receptions out of those for 55 yards.

It was nice seeing Albert Wilson get a reception though, as he grabbed a 13 yard pass from Smith. A.J. Jenkins was targeted three times and had one reception for 10 yards. Junior Hemingway caught both passes thrown his way, but only had nine yards on the day.

Sigh. When is Donnie Avery coming back?
