Former Mizzou football quarterback Chase Daniel is heading back to the Big Easy! After four years spent away from New Orleans, Daniel is going back to where he originally got his first shot at being a pro.

One of the best Missouri Tigers quarterbacks has a new home in the NFL. Well, sort of.

Chase Daniel is taking his talents back to New Orleans, a team that he spent four years before moving on to Kansas City and Philadelphia respectively. Daniel was supposed to remain in Philadelphia for two more seasons, but after the team brought in Nick Foles, it was apparent that Daniel wasn’t in the Eagles’ future plans.

Daniel went undrafted in 2009, but eventually found himself with the Saints. The Tiger worked hard and soon became the backup quarterback to Drew Brees. He even received a Super Bowl ring with the Saints for their championship in the 2009 season.

When Daniel signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, he became one of the highest paid backup quarterbacks. He went on to start two games for the Chiefs, going 1-1 in that span (though it should have been 2-0 if not for a missed call by the referees).

Daniel continued to reap the benefits of being a backup quarterback, receiving a mega-deal from the Eagles and going on to appear in two games for them. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

While Chase Daniel probably wants to be a starter in the pros, he knows New Orleans and he knows the Saints. Perhaps once Brees retires, Daniel can be the answer in the Big Easy, but for now, he’ll be backing up one of the best quarterbacks ever.

It is rather interesting following Daniel’s career, as he was incredibly talented in college. He’s shorter than what most teams would like to have at quarterback, but he certainly could have been a viable starter he gotten opportunites to prove himself earlier on in his career.

Now, at age 30, Daniel is likely going to be in that backup role for the rest of his NFL career. It’s not a bad thing by any means, as Daniel has racked up quite a bit of cash and has taken less hits than the guys in front of him on the depth chart.

Again… Not a bad gig if you can get it.

It’s nice to see a Mizzou football great continue to play in the NFL.
