The KC Chiefs aren’t a team known for drafting quarterbacks, but a lot of mock drafts out there are continuing to link the Chiefs to Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson in the 2017 NFL Draft.

For whatever reason, Deshaun Watson keeps falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in mock drafts, and it’s very puzzling to say the least.

Watson is the biggest name to enter the 2017 NFL Draft and he’s been projected to go anywhere from the top five picks to early in the second round. Recently, Watson once again fell to pick 27, where Bucky Brooks had the KC Chiefs scoop up Watson with their first round selection.

"Andy Reid has a knack for transforming athletic quarterbacks into efficient passers (see Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick)."

I’m really surprised about this particular mock draft because Brooks doesn’t have a quarterback being taken until the 25th overall pick (two selections before Kansas City). That’s the Texans grabbing Mitchell Trubisky.

When was the last time a quarterback wasn’t drafted until the 25th overall pick? Exactly. This mock draft is a mock draft for a reason in that it’s highly unlikely any of this happens.

Brooks thinks the teams will focus on grabbing defensive players early on and doesn’t even have an offensive player hearing his name called until fourth overall with Leonard Fournette joining the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As much as I’d like for this draft to happen, it won’t. Deshaun Watson won’t fall all the way to the Chiefs simply because he’s the biggest name at the biggest position in the 2017 NFL Draft.

I predict he’ll be gone within the first five selections because NFL teams want to find a quarterback, and the draft is really the only way to find your franchise guy.

This isn’t the only time Deshaun Watson has been mocked to Kansas City though. Dane Brugler of CBS Sports had the two connecting once again in his mock draft that was published on Tuesday.

"This might be an ideal scenario for both the Chiefs and Watson. Kansas City secures the future of the position and Watson goes to a winning organization where his skill set fits what the head coach wants to do on offense."

The analysts would know more than I would obviously, so perhaps the KC Chiefs are planning on going after Watson. I just don’t see a scenario in which Watson falls that far, but maybe Kansas City is willing to trade up and acquire him.

Chiefs fans would be pretty happy about Deshaun Watson becoming a Kansas City Chief, so for their sake (and my own), I do hope these mock drafts come true.

I’m still skeptical though, and for good reason.

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Could you see the Chiefs actually acquiring Deshaun Watson with the 27th overall pick or do you think he’ll be off the board way sooner?
