There hasn’t been a lot of buzz surrounding offensive linemen in the 2017 NFL Draft, but the best available is left tackle Ryan Ramczyk. Could the KC Chiefs land him with the 27th overall pick?

Offensive line hasn’t been mentioned much in the Kansas City Chiefs‘ plans for the 2017 NFL Draft, at least not in the first round. It makes sense too, as the team appears to have a solid core up front protecting their quarterback.

Last season the original starters were Eric Fisher (left tackle), Parker Ehinger (left guard), Mitch Morse (center), Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (right guard), and Mitchell Schwartz (right tackle). Ehinger missed the last half of the season due to injury and Zach Fulton filled in at left guard.

LDT also saw some missed time and Jah Reid saw time at right guard in his place. It’s kind of funny to see the group of guys who wound up as the starters along the line, as several were drafted after the fourth round (Ehinger, LDT, and Fulton).

With all of that said, I just don’t see a scenario where the KC Chiefs select Ryan Ramczyk with the 27th overall pick.

Perhaps if they opted to go for the best player available on the board, but otherwise… They should draft for need, and offensive line isn’t as big a need as edge rusher, inside linebacker, quarterback or running back.

Ramczyk has jumped from school to school, ranging from a Division II university close to home, a technical college with no sports teams whatsoever, a Division III school, and finally, big, bad Wisconsin, all of this according to CBS Sports.

More from KC Kingdom

Virtually every mock draft I’ve seen to this point has Ryan Ramczyk landing with the Denver Broncos at the 20th overall pick. If that’s the case, the KC Chiefs won’t have a shot at drafting the Wisconsin tackle anyway.

The latest mock draft I’ve glanced at was Pete Prisco’s at NFL.com, where he had Ramczyk joining the Broncos. For the record, he has the Chiefs selecting Haason Reddick, a linebacker out of Temple.

So, what did we learn here, Chiefs fans? To sum up, offensive line is an area that always needs depth due to the amount of hurt the guys up front suffer each week. This season there are just too many other needs for the Kansas City Chiefs and for that reason alone, there’s probably no shot in hell that the Chiefs take Ryan Ramczyk.

It’d be cool to draft Ramczyk though. He, like me, has a cool last name with a bunch of consonants in it. He’s also the best offensive lineman available in the 2017 NFL Draft. Drafting the tackle out of Wisconsin would give an NFL team a solid guy at the left tackle spot for years to come.

Next: Building the Chiefs Draft Board

The Chiefs already have both of their tackle spots covered for at least the next three or four years though, so there’s not a great argument for using a first rounder on this guy.

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Would you want to use the team’s first round pick on Ryan Ramczyk in the 2017 NFL Draft?
