The Kansas City Royals are no longer the reigning World Series champions. It’s officially time for the team and the fans to put the storybook season that was 2015 in the rearview mirror and move forward.

No Kansas City Royals fan will ever forget the 2015 season.

Some of us waited our whole lives for that moment.

  • That moment when Wade Davis threw the final out and he and Drew Butera embraced on the mound.
  • That moment when Salvador Perez won the World Series MVP.
  • That moment when the entire Kansas City population showed up for a parade and a rally that showed baseball really did mean something in Kansas City.
  • That moment that the Royals would be crowned the World Series champions of Major League Baseball.

No one will forget those moments, or any of the key moments that led to our favorite baseball team winning the World Series in 2015.

With that said, however, it’s time to turn the page on the magical 2015 season and begin a new chapter in Kansas City Royals history.

The Royals are no longer the reigning World Series champions. That honor now goes to the Chicago Cubs of the National League, who won the championship after waiting 108 years for a title.

The Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians, a rival of the Royals, in seven games in this year’s World Series. Game 7 was all sorts of dramatic, as every time we thought the Cubs had the game won, the Indians kept fighting back.

In the end, Chicago ended their drought and are the new reigning world champs. That’s as good as time as any for the KC Royals and their fans to realize that we need to stop thinking back to 2015 and now look ahead to 2017.

All throughout 2016, a clear hangover was apparent. The players looked exhausted throughout a large portion of the season and no matter what anyone said to the fans about the poor performance, we could always use the go-to line: “Scoreboard”.

The Cubs can now use the “Scoreboard” line and the Royals will now have to prove themselves yet again. No one other than Royals fans will care that this team won it all in 2015. It’s a new season and the hangover should be gone.

The 2017 season will be the last attempt for this current core group of players to win another title together as members of the Kansas City Royals. I, for one, am ecstatic for what the 2017 season has in store for us.

Next: What Went Right in 2016

Mike Moustakas will be back and ready to go, Alex Gordon will hopefully have a bounce back season, and Eric Hosmer could very well be donning a Royals jersey for the last time before hitting free agency after the 2017 season.

The 2015 season was a special one for the Kansas City Royals, but it’s time to make 2017 an even more special season for the Royals and their fans.
