The Kansas City Royals finally won back-to-back games. Salvador Perez lifted the team to victory on the road against a dreadful Tampa Bay Rays team. Here’s how he did it.

Salvador Perez started the game behind home plate like he normally does. He called the game for Yordano Ventura on Tuesday. Ventura has great stuff but sometimes gets his emotions out of whack allowing his focus to dissipate.

When this occurs, Salvador Perez comes to the mound to talk to him and gets him calmed down most of the time.

Perez helped Ventura get through five innings last night. Ventura didn’t have his command. He gave up four walks and struck out only two batters. He allowed six hits and two earned runs as well.

Ventura’s line could have been much worse if it wasn’t for great defensive plays. Nick Franklin led off the third inning with a single. Perez quickly erased him with a beautiful throw to second baseman, Raul Mondesi Jr. for the first out of the inning.

After the pick-off, Ventura gave up two walks and a single (not in that order). Luckily for the Royals, the Rays scored no runs in the inning, thanks in large part to Salvador Perez.

With one out in the seventh inning down by one, Perez came up to the plate. He devastated a middle-middle fastball, depositing the ball in the left-field seats for a two-run bomb giving the Royals a 3-2 lead.

The Kansas City Royals held on to the lead and won the game. It’s the teams first back-to-back winning streak since June 29th through the 30th (a sad but true statement). The Royals are undefeated in August. Kansas City is a perfect 2-0 this month.

Perez’s slash line this season is .268/.302/.476 with 16 home runs. in 94 games. He’s six home runs away from breaking his career high of 21 homers hit last season. He’s also taken a few more walks this season, accumulating 15 free passes.

The most impressive stat for Perez is his caught stealing percentage. He’s got a crazy number of 55%. That’s insane to say the least.

The Kansas City Royals have struggled this season. Kansas City is 51 and 55. That’s four games under .500 for the defending World Series Champions. The team is ten games back of the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central Division. They are 7.5 games out of the second wild-card slot.

This season might be a wash but there have been bright spots in a difficult season for the Royals. Salvador Perez is one of those bright spots, not only because of this infectious smile, but because of the talent he brings this team on a nightly basis.

Perez does it all. He calls the games, throws guys out at any base, hits game winning home runs and smiles. Who wouldn’t want this man in their clubhouse?
