The Kansas City Chiefs had one of their best seasons in franchise history in 2015, and now have to top it in 2016. What would be a successful 2016 season in Chiefs fans’ eyes?

After an 11-5 finish and a playoff victory last year, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to build on that success this season. While they’re the frontrunners to win the AFC West to some analysts, others have them finishing below .500. Oh, and some have picked them to win the Super Bowl.

In other words, the jury is still out on who the 2016 Chiefs squad will be, and that’s okay. We won’t know anything until the team actually gets out there and starts playing together.

With all of the different predictions out there for the Chiefs, what would you consider to be a successful season for the team? Obviously a Super Bowl title would be stellar, but it’s tough to go from winning one playoff game to winning the biggest game in all of football.

Personally, I think a successful season would be making a DEEP postseason run and winning their division, giving them a home game in the first round. A first-round bye would be nice too, but I won’t get carried away.

Remember how the Kansas City Royals’ playoff journey was in 2014? They were underdogs all the way through and ended up making it to the World Series that year. I can’t speak for everyone, but I personally was just happy to see my baseball team in the playoffs. I wasn’t even thinking about a World Series title until they actually made it there.

It’s the same thing with the Chiefs.

Once the Chiefs had that stupid “no playoff win” monkey off their back by blowing out Houston in the Wild Card round, I was able to just sit back and relax. The Chiefs ended up being eliminated the next week, but to me, 2015 was a successful season.

We all want our teams to win championships. Some might consider anything less than that to be a failure, but let’s not get carried away here, Chiefs fans.

Yes, this season should be an enjoyable one, but at the same time, we can’t expect the Chiefs to go from winning one playoff game to winning the Super Bowl. They need to win the division, something that should be manageable now that Denver has taken a bit of a dip in the offseason.

I don’t think we should head into this season thinking, “Super Bowl or Bust”, but we can head into it with realistic expectations.

Realistic expectations are winning the AFC West, hosting a playoff game, winning said playoff game, and making it to the AFC Championship game. Obviously a Super Bowl appearance would be nice, but I would say the aforementioned expectations would make 2016 a successful season.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Would you be content with merely another playoff win or do you want to see more from your favorite football team?
