The KC Chiefs have made another move in free agency, as they signed former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Rod Streater to a one-year deal.

It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs have needed help in the wide receiver position, and they’ve added depth by signing Rod Streater on Saturday to a one-year deal.

Streater isn’t the biggest name out there, but he provides depth to the Chiefs’ receivers. He totaled eight touchdowns during four years in Oakland in 19 starts. He had 1,564 receiving yards in four years with the Raiders.

Jeremy Maclin is the unquestioned number one starter for the Chiefs at the wide receiver position, but that number two spot could go to Chris Conley, Albert Wilson, a draft pick, or maybe even Streater has a shot at earning it.

Maclin made all of the difference in Kansas City in 2015, recording 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns. When he was absent in the playoff game against the Patriots, however, that was when it was obvious that the second wide receiver spot is still a bit of a concern for the Chiefs.

While not a big name, Streater could be utilized in this Chiefs offense. He’s only 28 years old and has shown some swag in the past.

His best season came in 2013, when he caught 60 passes for 888 yards and four touchdowns. If Streater can replicate that kind of success in Kansas City, that’d be terrific, as the team could use talented wide receivers for Alex Smith to throw to.

This signing isn’t huge by any means, but it could help the team out in 2016. Streater has the ability to compete for a starting job, and if nothing else, he’s another experienced veteran for Smith to target on the offense.

Personally, I would have liked to have seen the Kansas City Chiefs go after someone like Rueben Randle or even Anquan Boldin, but acquiring Rod Streater is a start. He’s familiar with the division at least.

Also, who’s to say that John Dorsey is done with this signing? More wide receivers could be on their way to Kansas City, but as of now, the team has Maclin, Conley, Wilson, Streater, possibly Jason Avant, and De’Anthony Thomas (assuming he doesn’t get traded).

Look for the Chiefs to also draft a receiver or two, as this is still an area of concern for the KC Chiefs.
