KC Chiefs: Justin Houston Could Be Out For Year

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs’ star defensive player Justin Houston could be out for the rest of the regular season and maybe the postseason with a knee injury.

Justin Houston is the Kansas City Chiefs‘ best player and was paid like one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Houston signed a 6-year/$101 million deal with the Chiefs this off-season, bringing home around $15 million per season (info. courtesy of sportrac.com).

Losing Houston could hurt the Chiefs’ chances to make the playoffs and advance very far. It is tough to lose a star caliber player, one missed setting a new NFL sack record by a single sack in 2015.

NFL Media’s Rand Getlin tweeted Wednesday:

Dr. James Andrews is known to be one of, if not the best knee specialists in the country. Andrews is the doctor that all athletes with severe knee injuries see and have their operations with.

Some big-time athletes who have been worked on by Dr. Andrews include Rajon Rondo, Adrian Peterson, Michael Jordan, Peyton and Eli Manning, and many others.

Houston visiting Dr. Andrews is very concerning for the KC Chiefs. Seeing Andrews means that he and the Chiefs’ organization are fearful of severe injury, or his knee’s current condition hasn’t improved much, if at all.

Houston suffered a sprained PCL in the Week 12 win over the Buffalo Bills. He hasn’t been back on the field since.

Second-year linebacker Dee Ford has been named the starter in Houston’s absence. Ford has been considered to be a bust by many, as he has looked too slow, too weak, and simply ineffective so far in his time in the NFL.

That all changed Week 14 against the San Diego Chargers.

Ford finished the game with three sacks on Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers and had seven total tackles. He finally looked worthy of the first-round selection that the Chiefs used on him back in the 2014 NFL Draft.

He looked more driven given the opportunity and he looked like he could really cause a problem for opposing teams in the near future.

Losing Justin Houston is obviously a let down for Chiefs’ fans, but if Dee Ford can continue to look like he did just last week, the Chiefs may not take a huge step back defensively like most would assume we would without Houston in the lineup.

Let me know what you think! Would Dee Ford will be an adequate replacement for Justin Houston if he is out for the year? Is this the end of the KC Chiefs’ playoff hopes?
