Kansas City Royals Need To Keep Pressure on Mets

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Royals lead the World Series 2-0 over the New York Mets, but this series is nowhere near over.

The KC Royals were able to win a nail biter in 14 innings in Game 1 on Tuesday night and went on to blow out the Mets 7-1 in Game 2 on Wednesday. Both of these games were at Kauffman Stadium, which was a huge advantage for the Royals.

Now, however, the series shifts to New York for Games 3, 4, and 5, and it won’t be easy for the Royals to tame this Mets crowd.

The Mets haven’t been to the World Series since 2000 so their fans are going to be crazy loud this weekend. The Mets haven’t won the World Series since 1986, one year after the Royals last won their only title.

If the Royals can come away with one win while in New York, then they will be on good pace for the series. That will not be an easy task though. There’s a reason the American League and National League play hard doing the All-Star Game and that’s because it’s for home field advantage, which is HUGE come playoff time.

The Royals have been fortunate to have home field advantage throughout the postseason this year, and it has not let them down in the least bit. The fans have made an impact for the Royals during their October run. If Game 1 was in New York, it’s very possible that the Mets would have taken that game.

Game 3 will see Yordano Ventura taking the mound against Mets young potential ace Noah Syndergaard. The fact that Syndergaard’s nickname is Thor can be a little intimidating, but Jacob deGrom was a scary pitcher this season, and the KC Royals rattled him in Game 2. deGrom only made it through five innings and allowed four runs in a game that the Royals soon ran away with.

If Ventura can go six innings and only give up one or two runs, the Royals’ offense should be able to generate enough runs to get him the win. Ventura did not have to pitch on the road during the ALCS so this could be an interesting game for the young starter in front of the opposing team’s fan base.

Game 4 will be Chris Young for the Royals against Steven Matz for the Mets. Young pitched three innings in Game 1 and got the win in a game that went on for six years. It’ll be interesting to see how far into the game Young can go after pitching three innings of shutout baseball on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

Again, if the KC Royals can take at least one game in New York, then the pressure will be on for the Mets. Kauffman Stadium is a tough atmosphere for opposing teams to play in, which will put even more pressure on New York should they get themselves back in the race.

Hopefully, the Kansas City Royals won’t need to return to the K for the end of the series though.
