KC Chiefs News: Justin Houston And 2015 Expectations

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news is slow lately, but most of it is dealing with outside linebacker Justin Houston having until July 15th to be signed to a long-term deal by Kansas City.

Justin Houston was a bad ass for the KC Chiefs last season. He broke Derrick Thomas‘ franchise sacks record, and nearly passed Michael Strahan‘s all-time sacks record. Simply put, Houston was the heart and soul of the Chiefs’ defense.

With all of that said, Houston still has not signed to a long-term deal or signed his tender yet. The Kansas City Chiefs have until July 15th to get some sort of deal set in stone with the former Georgia Bulldog, but the more time passes, the more nervous Chiefs fans are getting.

  • The team will not be able to discuss long-term deals again until after the season is over and Houston would have the option to not sign until week 10 of the regular season. This can’t happen. Get a deal done now John Dorsey.

In other news, the Chiefs should have an exciting season in 2015. With the most stacked roster this team has seen in years, fans can’t wait to see the KC Chiefs get out on the field and light up the scoreboard/shut down opposing offenses.

Here’s what Fansided.com has to say.

Justin Houston: Chiefs must get deal done [Arrowhead Addict]

"There has been plenty of clamoring about why the Chiefs must get the Houston deal done, but somehow one of the most important aspects has been lost. Kansas City is facing an offseason in 2016 with a ton of defensive free agents hitting the market. If it wants to keep this elite group together, it might go a long way to show that the team is ready and willing to pay its best players."

Chiefs 2015: What are your expectations? [Arrowhead Addict]

"I can’t see this team missing the playoffs. Look at both sides of the ball. The Chiefs only major question mark is the offensive line, and that stands to be improved."

Now check out what the rest of internet is buzzing about.

Justin Houston, Chiefs contract deadline is 10 days away [Arrowhead Pride]

"So is it likely that they reach a deal? I don’t believe it is. Everything I have heard is that they are not all that close, although the two sides are talking. There have been threats about Houston sitting out into the season but I’m not really sure what that would accomplish, especially if they aren’t even allowed to strike a long-term deal after July 15."

Agent’s Take: A fair contract solution for Justin Houston and Chiefs [CBS Sports]

"Joel Segal, Houston’s agent, believes his client deserves to be paid among the top non-quarterbacks in the NFL after the type of season Houston had in 2014. It is also my understanding that his salary expectations changed after Ndamukong Suh‘s six-year, $114.375 million contract containing $59.955 million fully guaranteed with the Miami Dolphins re-set the market for non-quarterbacks. Segal’s concept of taking more than just the linebacker market into consideration seems reasonable given Houston had a Defensive Player of the Year caliber season."
