Kansas City Chiefs Defeated Both Teams Headed to Super Bowl

facebooktwitterreddit

The two teams headed to the Super Bowl have been decided and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated both of them during the regular season. The Seattle Seahawks won the NFC after a crazy comeback win against the Green Bay Packers, and the New England Patriots dismantled the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship.

The Kansas City Chiefs were the only team in the league to defeat both of these teams during the regular season. Sure, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything since the Chiefs didn’t make it into the postseason, but it’s still an impressive feat. Let’s take a look back at those games.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

In week four, the Chiefs hosted the Patriots on Monday Night Football. The Chiefs were coming off an impressive win at Miami and were sitting at 1-2 while the Patriots were 2-1. Arrowhead Stadium was going for the loudest outdoor stadium record that night and fans were pumped and ready to go.

It was an incredible game for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they went on to win 41-14. Tom Brady was picked off twice and lost one fumble in a game where both the Chiefs’ offense and defense stepped up and did their parts. The crowd broke the noise record in the first half and the game was never close. In fact, it was 17-0 in favor of Kansas City at half time.

I think the best part about this game was that people went on and on about how “the Patriots just aren’t good anymore”, but after that they looked unstoppable and now they’re headed to the Super Bowl. People shouldn’t be taking this game away from the Chiefs no matter what the Pats were going through. A win is a win after all.

Week 10 brought the Seattle Seahawks to Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs were riding a four game winning streak and had just come off an impressive victory in Buffalo against those pesky Bills. This game against the Seahawks would be interesting because both teams had success through good defense and running the ball well on offense.

The Seahawks only led once in the game and that was late in the third quarter. The Chiefs quickly retook the lead early in the fourth quarter and then the defense was able to hold Russell Wilson and his offense on multiple fourth down attempts to seal the victory and give KC their fifth straight win.

After that, things sort of went downhill for the Chiefs, but it’s still awesome to say that they beat both of these electric teams during the regular season. Some people will try and retort with, “The Patriots and Seahawks were in slumps when they played the Chiefs!” I don’t care. We’re Chiefs fans and we don’t get these kind of accomplishments much. Let us have this please.
