Kansas City Chiefs Free Agent Targets – Tyus Bowser, LB

Another player from the 2017 draft, Tyus Bowser is a really athletic, rangy linebacker that could do a lot of interesting things in the Chiefs defense.

Despite only two career starts with Baltimore in the past four years, Bowser will be somewhat sought after on the market, especially considering the Ravens are likely unable to bring him back. For the Chiefs, in need of bodies and production at linebacker, Bowser is an intriguing free agent.

The concern with Bowser, beyond the lack of starting experience, is scheme fit. Having been an outside linebacker in the Ravens 3-4 defense, he would transition to the outside in the Chiefs 43/425 defense.

That being said, Bowser is an elite athlete at the linebacker position, and despite having only started two games over four years, has recorded 10.5 career sacks, four interceptions and 10 passes defended. Bowser is adept at rushing the quarterback (important in the Chiefs defense) and shows comfort in helping cover tight ends (something the Chiefs could use).

Below is the Tyus Bowser spider graph from the 2017 NFL Combine. The numbers are percentiles. The Chiefs love athletes, Bowser certainly is a good one. He’s young. And for the veteran from Houston, the best is yet to come.
