Depending on how the Kansas City Chiefs manage the salary cap this offseason, the team may be able to make one big move in free agency.

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ concerns along the offensive line are well known, though the Super Bowl may have exaggerated those concerns. The lack of development with Mecole Hardman and the departure of Sammy Watkins creates a need at receiver, and the long-term depth of the defense needs help, lots of it.

With that in mind, I take a look at a few players hitting free agency that could help the Chiefs. I had a few requirements in mind. I am looking at players that are either ascending young players or players that will continue to produce at their current level for multiple seasons.

The Chiefs are likely going to be kicking the can down the road financially in a big way this offseason and will need players that can produce for multiple seasons.

Kansas City Chiefs Free Agent Targets – Kendrick Bourne, WR

A name that likely isn’t quite like what the Chiefs look for at receiver, Kendrick Bourne is a young receiver known more for moving the chains than he is for getting deep or running past defenders.

An undrafted free agent from the 2017 draft (that year will show up often), Bourne has played in an offense with a variety of sub-par quarterbacks. Can he be the chain mover this offense could use? Can he be a player that won’t run past people, but can pick up first downs and is versatile? Bourne wouldn’t be overly expensive, that’s for sure.

Bourne however could possibly fill the role vacated by Watkins. Both have similar yards per reception over the past three years, and both have similar touchdowns scored. The former Eastern Washington receiver has lined up in a variety of spots for the 49ers and with the Chiefs would be perhaps an overlooked threat to help move the ball down the field.
