What we learned in KC Chiefs loss: Punter might need an upgrade

My heart went out to Tommy Townsend during the Super Bowl LV loss because he did not have a good night. In fact, he might have had the worst possible night (yes, even more so than the offensive line and Tyrann Mathieu).

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Townsend had two really, really bad punts that put the Bucs in great position right off the bat. It’s a shame too because one of those bad punts followed a really good punt that was wiped out by a penalty. The rookie clearly was all kinds of nervous and it showed.

Whether this means the Chiefs move on from Townsend and find a new punter or give him another chance to prove himself, we’ll have to wait and see. I felt bad for the rookie though because he clearly wasn’t ready for that moment.

What we learned in KC Chiefs loss: Chiefs fans were humbled

Listening to local sports talk or scrolling through Chiefs Twitter (or social media in general) last week and you’d have thought the Kansas City Chiefs were playing the 1-15 Jacksonville Jaguars in the Super Bowl. Fans were not giving Tampa Bay any respect heading into this Super Bowl with many assuming this would be a blowout.

Well, it was a blowout, just not in favor of the Chiefs.

Because of how the Chiefs won all of their playoff games last year, fans never seemed to believe the team would lose and now, that’s not the case. Kansas City can lose and they can lose in embarrasing fashion.

This was a humbling moment for Chiefs fans and hopefully they learn from it. Mahomes is great, this offense is magnificent, and Andy Reid is one of the best coaches in the league, but that doesn’t make them immune from bad losses.

The loss was unfortunate but hopefully the KC Chiefs learn from this and become a better team because of it.

At least the half time show was good?
