Kansas City Chiefs who won’t be back in 2021 — No. 3: Alex Okafor

This isn’t necessarily what I want to happen, as when he’s on the field, Alex Okafor is a wonderful player and really helps the defense out tremendously. The issue with Okafor is that he’s seldom healthy and that’s been the case since he came to Kansas City last year.

This year has seen Okafor appear in just four games and last year he appeared in 10 before missing the rest of the year, including the magical Super Bowl run. The Chiefs could use a player like Okafor, but if he’s injured most of the time, they’d be better off trying their luck at finding a younger defensive end in the draft or turning to free agency.

Okafor will be 29 this offseason and the fact that he’s already battled injuries so much during his short time in Kansas City is reason enough to move on from him this offseason. The Chiefs had the right idea by bringing him in, as he was very good in New Orleans and the Chiefs needed all the help they could get to boost their defensive line.

But, again, staying healthy is a big part of football and if Okafor can’t stay on the field, there isn’t much reason for the Chiefs to consider bringing him back in 2021.
