What did we learn about the Denver Broncos?

The last time the Broncos won was in Sept. 2015 when Peyton Manning was still their quarterback. Ever since then, it was nine straight wins for Kansas City in this rivalry and the Chiefs made it 10 straight against their divisional foes.

Honestly the Broncos didn’t play terribly even if the 43-16 would say otherwise. Denver’s defense held Patrick Mahomes to 200 yards passing and kept him out of the end zone until the fourth quarter. They also sacked the reigning Super Bowl MVP three times and had four total sacks on the afternoon.

Offensively, the run game was on point for Denver, totaling 177 yards on the ground with two touchdowns as well. Drew Lock wasn’t very good, however, throwing for 254 yards and two interceptions (one was a pick six) while getting sacked three times. Lock is going to have to play a lot better if he wants to truly be Darth Vader against his hometown team.

What we learned about the Broncos is that they can’t get out of their own way. Lock threw two interceptions and the offense fumbled two other times, giving Kansas City easy possessions. The goal when facing Mahomes and the Chiefs is to do whatever it takes to keep him and the offense off the field and while the Broncos were able to do that at times, they continued to give him extra opportunities.

Next up: The Broncos host the Chargers in the late window of games. They have two winnable games these next two weeks and could get back to .500, but they have to start playing better.
