Following Charlton, we will discuss Darryl Williams, who has a much slimmer chance of making the roster, but we can always hope! Williams was a highly sought after undrafted free agent post-draft and he chose to sign with the KC Chiefs. Heading into training camp, much of Chiefs Kingdom had high hopes for the high sought after center.

It really seemed possible that the Chiefs would cut Austin Reiter and save three million dollars against the cap, but Reiter continues to take all of the first team snaps at center, so that is seeming pretty unlikely at this point. There hasn’t been a lot of buzz about Williams behind Reiter coming out of camp, so he is likely headed toward a practice squad year.

The recent addition of Daniel Kilgore further complicates Williams pursuit of a roster spot. At this point, Williams’ only shot at a roster spot seems to be beating out second year center Nick Allegretti.

Williams has a lot of upside and maybe spending a year on the practice squad and then coming into camp next season as a much more experienced player is what he needs. His upside is undeniable, so this is a terrific guy to be rooting for heading into roster cuts. It would be pretty surprising to see him crack the roster, but we sure would love to see it!
