Roster cuts will start happening with rosters expected to be trimmed to 53. Here are some young stars that we would love to see crack the KC Chiefs’ roster!

To start, we will preface this article by saying that we tried to avoid the young guys who are obviously roster locks like Willie Gay, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, L’Jarius Sneed, etc, so if you were wondering, yes, we are excited about them too.

Here are the young stars we want to see crack the 53-man roster.

6. Taco Charlton, DE

Now this one seems like a weird one, but hear me out. Taco Charlton doesn’t seem like a guy who fits into the ‘young’ category, as he is heading into his fourth season in the NFL. He is still just 25 years old, which is just a year older than Juan Thornhill, for example.

Charlton hasn’t had his breakout season yet and, still being just 25, he definitely seems young enough to be considered a ‘young’ up and coming player if you ask me.

If you check out my most recent 55-man roster prediction article, you will find that Charlton is projected to make the roster, but at a very deep position group.

Because of the depth of this position group, if the Chiefs decide to only keep five defensive ends and the last two spots come down to Breeland Speaks, Mike Danna, and Charlton, the Chiefs would probably give the home grown Speaks one last shot and they almost have to keep their fifth-round rookie on the roster with his excellent camp performance.

The Chiefs will keep one or two more defensive ends than they typically would because of the depth at the position, so Charlton should be safe, but crazier things have happened.

So, why is this a guy to root for?

Charlton has the talent to not only be a great depth piece for the Chiefs, but to be a breakout star in the NFL. He is a former first-round pick with all the physical gifts in the world, he just hasn’t been able to put it all together yet.

He’s probably looking at this as kind of his last chance, so a motivated player with Charlton’s talent is definitely a player to be excited about. This is a player who we are definitely cheering for to make the active roster.
