Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target – Number 14: Carson Wentz

14. player. 54. . Quarterback. Philadelphia Eagles. Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz is a much better real life quarterback than he is in fantasy, mostly because he doesn’t have a whole lot of help this season. He finished as QB9 last year, but his lack of targets – at least early on in the season – make him a regress candidate.

Early on in the season, the Eagles pass catchers will be at less than full strength. Alshon Jeffery looks like he will be on the PUP to start the season and a suspension is likely still on the table for Desean Jackson. That leaves rookie Jalen Reagor and the tight end tandem of Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert as Wentz’s primary targets to start the season.

He still has decent upside, but his less than full strength receiver corps looks a little underwhelming and will likely limit him to some extent. It is also worth mentioning that he does come with an injury history which should be taken into consideration when drafting Wentz.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target – Number 13: Cam Newton

. Quarterback. New England Patriots. Cam Newton. 13. player. 47

The previously mentioned unknowns with Mayfield pale in comparison to the unknowns with Cam Newton. However, Newton is capable of finishing  as a top overall fantasy quarterback when at full health.

It has been a while, as 2017 is the last time we saw Newton in the top 10 and he basically missed the entire season last year, but he does have that elite fantasy quarterback inside somewhere. It’s just difficult to predict how deep down it’s buried within him.

On top of that, he is moving to a new offense in which Tom Brady struggled in last season due to a lack of receiving options. On the other hand though, Newton appears to be in great health and he will be playing for the best coach he’s ever played with this season, so this could be doomed for mediocrity or it could result in a resurgence for Newton.

Last season Brady finished as QB12 in basically the same offense and a healthy Newton could be a better quarterback than Brady at this point in their respective careers. If Newton is healthy, he is one of the best goal line running backs in the game as well as very respectful through the air.

This is a very high risk pick, but could also bring a super high reward.
