I absolutely love the Kansas City Chiefs. I am a diehard Chiefs fan and will be until the day I die, but just because something is tradition doesn’t make it right, or just because something has been done for a long time doesn’t mean it should continue to be done.

The Chiefs are my team through and through, but the social responsibility falls on the team and the fans to be more aware and more sensitive to how the Chiefs imagery and traditions might resonate with other people.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

I have always been proud to be a Chiefs fan, because all the time I hear that Chiefs fans are some of the nicest people in the NFL. We just want to have some barbecue, pop open a Boulevard beer, and root for our team.

If we thought that we were offending a whole race of people, and alienating them from ever wanting to be Chiefs fans, we would want to change our actions right away, because that is not what Chiefs Kingdom represents.

I myself am a totally blind man, and I have found my passion in a very sighted sect of society — sports. I have been privileged enough to be on Chiefs radio and television shows, and I now have the privilege of writing pieces for this fine website, and never once has a member of Chiefs Kingdom questioned me because I can not visually see the sport I am so passionate about, but rather I have been accepted by all I have met.

That is the Chiefs Kingdom that I know and love and am proud to be a part of, and that is the Chiefs Kingdom that I know would never want a single person to feel singled out or secluded, rather all backgrounds, races and religions come together as we root for our Kansas City Chiefs.
