REGGIE RAGLAND

The Bills were quick to give up on 2016 second round pick and when the Chiefs first traded for him in 2017 for a fourth round pick, it looked like Buffalo might have been onto something. While Reggie Ragland isn’t the star many expected him to be, he adds depth and was a part of the Chiefs’ defensive success in 2019; He even started in the Super Bowl.

The former Crimson Tide linebacker had two sacks and three quarterback hits in 2019 while also totaling 29 tackles through 17 games and eight starts. Re-signing Ragland probably wouldn’t excite fans all that much, but bringing back someone who is familiar with the defensive scheme is never a bad idea. He’s also 26 years old, which means he still has plenty left in the tank.

MIKE PENNEL

Someone that fans will definitely be clamoring to re-sign is Mike Pennel, who once he was brought in this season, made a huge difference along the defensive line, especially when it came to stopping the run. Pennel had a huge hit on Jimmy Garoppolo in the Super Bowl that led to an interception and that interception led to a Chiefs field goal.

Pennel finished the year with 24 tackles, two quarterback hits, and one sack through 11 games and two starts. He started both the Divisional Round and Championship Game, but did not start in the Super Bowl, though he made key plays, as noted above.

Pennel is 28 years old, so he’s still fairly young and should have plenty to offer the Chiefs if brought back. The problem is that he played well enough in 2019 and teams will probably be offering him more money than Kansas City can.
