KC Chiefs: What we learned about each team in AFC West after week 17
WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE BRONCOS?
Coming into the year, Broncos fans might have expected a .500 season with a slight chance to make it into the playoffs as a Wild Card team. They weren’t competing with the Chiefs for the division title, but they could be an entertaining team.
Well, some bad luck early on led them to sit at 0-4 on the season and they were as bad as 3-8 after week 12. Once Denver made the switch at quarterback and gave their second round rookie Drew Lock a chance, things started to trend north for the Broncos.
Lock wasn’t exceptional, but at season’s end, he only had one loss on his resumé, and for the first time since “The Sheriff” retired, Bronco fans are excited about their quarterback. Why shouldn’t they be either? Lock threw for 1,020 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions through his five starts and wasn’t afraid to take chances down the field.
Denver finished the year at 7-9, and after that 0-4 start (which to be fair – were close losses), Bronco fans will gladly take a near .500 season. Had just a few more balls bounced their way this year, the Broncos could have been a near playoff team, but they’re not quite there yet.
While I’ll be curious to see if Lock progresses or regresses in 2020 (my guess is the latter), Denver might finally have their quarterback solution figured out. Does that take them out of the sweepstakes for signing any of the big name quarterbacks on the free agent market this offseason? Not necessarily, but more than likely, the Broncos will roll with Lock in 2020 and it appears that would be just fine with their fans.
