Week 5 – Andrew Luck

The Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck is an MVP-level quarterback who seems to be lurking in the shadows in recent years. After a couple of down seasons due to a lingering shoulder injury, Luck popped up in a few MVP conversations in 2018. His resurgence last year appears to be consistent with the type of quarterback that he was cut out to be.

As the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, he led the Colts to 11 wins and a playoff berth. And that was really saying something since the Colts finished 2-14 the year before his arrival. Needless to say, Luck became one of the league’s top quarterback in the years following.

Factor in a change at head coach along with the shoulder injury and it was surprising to see how well Luck returned to form in 2018.

After throwing for nearly 4,600 yards and tallying 39 passing touchdowns (second only to Mahomes’ 50 in 2018), Luck and new head coach, Frank Reich, returned the Colts to a playoff team and solid contender. With a decent year under their belts, will Luck lead the Colts to an even better season in 2019?

Not only is Lucked back by one of the league’s better defenses, but the Colts’ brass also brought in another decent receiver for Luck in this year’s draft. Ohio State’s Parris Campbell was picked up late in the second round and should learn a lot in his first year from starter, T.Y. Hilton. With a decent offensive line and rushing attack, Luck will be poised to make the most of what’s around him.

After a poor outing in last season’s divisional playoff game at Arrowhead, Luck and the Colts may have an appetite for revenge in week five. Thankfully, the rematch is set to be under the big lights of Arrowhead once again.

Hopefully, the presence of Patrick Mahomes will keep Luck lurking in the shadows when they square off again this season.
