ROYALS TOP FIVE PICKS IN MLB DRAFT

2003 – CHRIS LUBANSKI (FIFTH OVERALL)

In 2003, the Royals made Chris Lubanski the fifth overall pick. Lubanski played at Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

Lubanski was an outfielder and spent time at all three outfield spots during his time in the minor leagues. Like Stodolka, Chris Lubanski never made it to the big leagues.

Lubanski played in the Royals farm system until 2009 and never got that major league call-up. While he spent another two years in the league (Toronto’s and Philadelphia’s minor league systems), he finished off his career in the independent league and was out of baseball after 2011.

The Royals had two brutally bad top five picks and to this point, none of their top five selections had turned into anything.

Fortunately, things were about to change.
