ROYALS TOP FIVE PICKS IN MLB DRAFT

2000 – MIKE STODOLKA (FOURTH OVERALL)

Two years later, the KC Royals held the fourth overall pick and decided to add Mike Stodolka who attended Centennial High School in Corona, California.

Even though the previous names on this list didn’t end up becoming much of anything, at least they all made it to the majors. The same can’t be said for Stodolka, who spent eight years in the Royals farm system and never got that MLB call-up.

Stodolka was both a position player and a pitcher. The Royals used him as a pitcher during the first five years of his career and when that went nowhere, he was switched to a hitter. He played first base and the outfield once he became a hitter, but still wasn’t making an impact.

After eight long years in the minor leagues, Stodolka’s time as a ballplayer came to an end. He easily goes down as one of the Royals’ biggest draft busts ever.
