ROUND 2: PICK 31 (63RD OVERALL)

A few selections later, the Chiefs go with Amani Oruwariye out of Penn State. Let it be known that Oruwariye wasn’t the best player on the board at this point, but it’s hard to believe that if he’s sitting there with pick 63 that the Chiefs would pass on him.

Oruwariye spent all four years of his eligibility at Penn State and became one heck of a player. Last year alone he totaled 50 tackles, 11 defended passes, and three interceptions. He broke onto the scene as a junior in 2016, grabbing four interceptions that year.

The Chiefs might have added Bashaud Breeland through free agency, but they still need to draft cornerbacks. Oruwariye is a good choice here, even if he wasn’t necessarily the best available player.

What analysts are saying:

"He can be an effective press-man defender, but must win at the line of scrimmage or he could become an early target for quarterbacks as he lacks makeup speed once he’s beaten. Oruwariye is a proven disruptor at the catch point and is willing to step up and take on run support duties. -Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"
