MOST DISAPPOINTING CHIEFS IN 2018

NUMBER 3 – CHRIS CONLEY

Quick! Can you name the highlight of Chris Conley‘s career thus far? The guy that catches a touchdown in a Patrick Mahomes highlight video in the 49ers game after four years in the NFL is not exactly the way to live in the NFL. After four years, the Chris Conley era in KC likely ends as quietly as his on-field performance.

Perhaps the most frustrating part about Conley is the maybe, kind of, sort of aspect. Conley recorded 32 receptions for 334 yards this season and caught five touchdowns in 2018. It’s hard to imagine, but that was a career year for Conley.

His career to this point saw him produce only 1,238 yards over four seasons and a total of six touchdowns. Yes, he came into 2018 with one career touchdown in the regular season. For a wide receiver with great size and physical tools, Conley’s inability to produce and develop is in part what lead the Chiefs to spend a bunch of money on Sammy Watkins this past offseason.

The free agent-to-be is likely not coming back to the Chiefs next season, as he saw playing time decline towards the end of the season. Players such as Demarcus Robinson and Gehrig Dieter saw more playing time in crucial moments and that’s not a good sign for Conley.

With younger developmental players such as Dieter, Robinson, and even Marcus Kemp, it’s hard to imagine how and why Conley comes back in 2019.
