KANSAS CITY ROYALS NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

NUMBER 3 – DON’T BE AFRAID OF A BIG MOVE

It’s hard to believe the Kansas City Royals would have won it all in 2015 had they not made the moves for Johnny Cueto and Ben Zobrist. Both guys played a huge role in getting the boys in blue to the top of the mountain and they were acquired because Dayton Moore pulled the trigger and made big moves.

To get Cueto, the Royals sent three pitchers (all left-handers) to Cincinnati, including beloved 2014 Wild Card hero Brandon Finnegan. It was a gutsy move to send someone so young and with a lot of potential like Finnegan, but the Royals did it, and it paid off.

In order to obtain Zobrist, KC had to part ways with Sean Manea, who has gone on to be sensational for the Oakland A’s. That hurts a bit, yes, but Zobrist was amazing when he was with the Royals for those few short months.

While it’ll be a different type of trade this time around, Moore and the Royals can’t be afraid to make a big deal if the opportunity arises. If a team wants Whit Merrifield or Salvador Perez come the trade deadline and the asking price is right, DO IT.

The Royals need young prospects and 30-year old Whit Merrifield and 28-year old Salvador Perez might not be what they are now by the time this team is ready to contend again.

Make a big move if the opportunity presents itself, Mr. Moore.
