KANSAS CITY ROYALS NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

NUMBER 4 – BE AGGRESSIVE ON THE BASE PATHS

When looking at three of the nine guys in the Royals starting lineup, the first thing that will be said is likely, “Wow this team is fast!” And we’ll very much be seeing that a lot this year. Or hopefully, at least.

The Royals already had Adalberto Mondesi and Whit Merrifield in Kansas City, but they signed Billy Hamilton to a one-year deal, giving them a very speedy trio that can fly around the base paths.

That will be the Royals’ ammo should they get on base. If Mondesi and Merrifield are the two leadoff guys, opposing pitchers are going to be worried about them swiping a bag on them to the point where maybe it’ll get in their head.

We saw this executed beautifully in the 2014 Wild Card game and it’s been a big part of the Royals offense over the years.

Hamilton has struggled offensively over his career, but if he does get on base, the guy will surely be looking to steal a base or two… or three.
