Texas hasn’t been able to win in Manhattan since the early 2000’s

The series between Texas and Kansas State football has gone back and forth in recent seasons. In the previous five meetings between the Longhorns and the Wildcats, the two teams have alternated as to who would be the victor. Texas won in 2013, 2015, and 2017 while Kansas State won in 2014 and 2016.

Prior to those five games, the Wildcats had a five game winning streak over the Longhorns that started in 2006 and carried over into 2007 but took a pause in 2008 and 2009. Then, from 2010 to 2012, Kansas State pulled off three more wins over Texas.

And so, in the last 10 meetings, Kansas State has won seven games against Texas. The three that the Longhorns did win all were in Austin, Texas. The last time that Texas beat Kansas State in Manhattan was in 2002.

Things have obviously changed a bit since the beginning of the century. Computers have become cheaper and simultaneously significantly better. Cars have become more efficient. Bill Snyder briefly retired and then came back.

Assuming that the recent trend of alternating wins continues, Kansas State should win here. If the trend of Texas being incapable of winning in Manhattan continues, then Kansas State will come out on top.

But, well, those are relatively trivial trends. Texas appears to be a solid team and K-State can’t count on either of those things to help them come out on top.
