Best Kansas basketball seasons all-time:

  • 21-’22 and ’22-’23 Kansas Jayhawks
  • Head coach: Phog Allen
  • Results: 33-3 (over both seasons) Helms National Champions (both seasons)

In Phog Allen’s fifth year as head coach, during the ’21-’22 season he led the Jayhawks to a 16-2 record, going 15-1 in the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Jayhawks finished tied for first in the standings that season. Their highest point total was 44 points.

Kansas’ only two losses were to Missouri in the border war and to the ever popular Kansas City Athletic Club. Key wins that season were co-champs of the conference Missouri, in the second stint of the season, and Drake both times they played. Paul Endacott and Adolph Rupp were both Juniors for Allen’s first championship.

In ’22-23 Phog Allen’s Jayhawks were the Helms Champions again. With Senior guard Paul Endacott winning the player of the year award and his second all-american award. Endacott was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1972. He served as President of Phillips Petroleum for years.

Adolph Rupp went on to coach the Kentucky Wildcats. Winning 876 games in 41 years. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1969. Kentucky now plays in the famous Rupp Arena.

Kansas went 17-1 during the season with their only loss coming to the pesky Kansas City Athletic Club. They finished first in the final standings.
