POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS FOR ERIC HOSMER – NEW YORK YANKEES

While the Yankees haven’t really been tied to Hosmer much lately, this was a team that seemed to be very much in the mix for the young first baseman early on. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports had the Yankees as one of three teams to land Hosmer before the offseason even began.

The interesting part about the Yankees, however, is that they do have Greg Bird at first base and he had a pretty good year. Still though, the Yankees are notorious for buying all of the big names on the market, so it won’t shock me if they were able to land Hoz.

Gag all you want, but the Yankees are very much in the Eric Hosmer sweepstakes.

In that Heyman article from mid September, Heyman wrote that the Yankees “love” Hosmer. That’s not a good sign for the Royals ever, but especially not with the Yankees. If it comes down to a bidding war, that’s a battle the Royals just aren’t going to win.

"But how about the Yankees? They are talking about trying to get below the luxury tax threshold, will need pitching and still seem to hope that Greg Bird will overcome his myriad injuries and become a dependable first-base solution. “They could be in play,” one person close to the team said. But the Yankees are said to love Hosmer, who brings the kind of clutch and leadership they seek."

It’s also worth noting that Eric Hosmer grew up as a Yankees fan. Well, he rooted for the Marlins and then, like everyone else, jumped over onto that Yankees train.

For anyone to be able to play for their childhood team is a dream come true, but the Yankees are especially a team that players dream of playing for. Gag all you want, but the truth of the matter is that the Yankees are very much in the Eric Hosmer sweepstakes.
